Not sure what to do? Pick a direction, any direction, and then take a baby step in that direction! Of course, that’s just to start, and it’s important not to give up too quickly. On the other hand, if you find that something is really not to your liking, you can quit it without a lot of time or effort. The distinction can be rather difficult to determine. If the only thing holding you back is that it’s uncomfortable to be bad at something, keep trying. Don’t worry about not being great (or even good) in the beginning. You may have fallen in love with the idea of something, though, without having actually done it, and then realize that there’s something you haven’t considered. For example, maybe you love the idea of oil painting, but if you strongly dislike the smell of oil paints, then that probably isn’t the hobby for you. Virtually every hobby or career has unappealing elements, though, so it’s up to you to determine what’s just not worth it.
