Another reason to take baby steps is to gauge your direction. Sometimes we take big steps, but it turns out that it is in the wrong direction. It can then be costly to undo everything and start from scratch. Baby steps can help ensure that those drastic measures won’t be necessary. For example, if you think that you may want to go back to college, it may be smarter to test the waters with one course at first, or even take a course through Coursera or another low cost or even free source. That way you won’t lose a lot of money if you decide you don’t want to pursue that path any longer.
